TYPES OF JUICERS WE REVIEW

CENTRIFUGAL JUICERS

centrifugal-juicer-smallThese are the best juicers for those that do not want to spend a lot time juicing.  They have powerful motors that spin juicing discs at extremely high rates of speed to make quick work of any type of fruit or vegetable.  For the fastest juicing experience, a centrifugal model is the best option.

SO WHICH JUICER IS BEST?

Buying a juicer is an exercise in compromise.  Unfortunately, there is not a simple answer to this question as they all have their pros and cons.  A fast juicer is generally going to be loud.  A quiet juicer is usually not going to be a speed demon.  A model that excels at juicing leafy green vegetables may struggle with soft fruits.  A particular machine that has excellent juicing performance may be difficult to clean.  There is not one perfect machine out there for everyone, but there is a perfect juicer out there for YOU.

WHAT SHOULD YOU LOOK FOR IN A JUICER?

The best juicer is one that you enjoy using, one that you will use on a regular basis, and one that best serves your needs.  There are several important factors to keep in mind when choosing a new juicing machine.  Knowing which are most important to you can help you narrow down the list and find a quality juicer that you will be satisfied with.  Some of these factors may include; price, ease of use, what types of foods you plan to juice most frequently, how easy is the machine to clean, how much time you have to juice every day, the quality and yield of the juice produced, and noise.

SPEED

How much time do you have to juice?  If you want a fast machine, then a centrifugal juicer will probably be your best option.  These juicers are speedy and convenient.

If you have a little more time to spare, then a masticating juicer can provide a few added benefits that a centrifugal unit may not be able to provide.

NOISE

Centrifugal juicers are fast, but they also tend to be quite loud.  The speed and convenience of these types of machines come with a cost in terms of noise levels.

Masticating juicers on the other hand tend to be relatively quiet when running since they operate at much slower speeds.  They will not wake the entire house and they are much easier on the ears.  These are the best juicers for anyone concerned about noise.

Knowing your threshold for noise can help when deciding which type of juicer to buy.

CLEAN UP

Getting a juicer that is simple to wash is also another key ingredient to a quality machine.  If a certain model is a lot of work to clean, then you may be less willing to want to use it on a regular basis.

There is no distinct advantage for either centrifugal or masticating juicers.  This is more model specific and it is why we score this for each juicer we review.

The top juicers in customer ratings all seem to have one thing in common, they are relatively easy to clean.

BUDGET

How much you are wanting to spend on a new kitchen appliance is usually a primary factor for everyone.  Centrifugal juicers tend to be a little less expensive than masticating models, but there bargains to be had on both sides.

The threshold for being able to find a quality juicer that handles both fruits and vegetables is usually around the $100 mark and up.

TYPES OF FOODS

Knowing what types of fruits and vegetables you will want to juice most often can go a long way to determining what type of juicer would be the best option.

For instance, if you want to juice a lot kale, spinach, herbs, cabbage, lettuce, or wheatgrass, then the best juicers for this would be masticating models.  These juicers tend to do a better job with leafy greens and produce slightly higher juice yields.

If you plan on doing mostly fruit juices, then a centrifugal model might offer a slightly better experience.

Both types of juicers are capable of getting juice from anything that is dropped into them, but they tend to handle certain kinds of foods better than others.
